I can’t say enough wonderful things about this family. Big sister was so excited to run on the beach and come back to mom for a hug of her baby brother on the way. When he arrived I was overwhelmed by the sweetness she showed him. There is such a bond already with the recognition of everyone’s voices. While they were home, he was also greeted by his fur baby sibling! Here is their story as told by mom and photos from each of their sessions (beach maternity, fresh 48 hospital and in home newborn).
Sessions were captured with fine art film and digital formats:
Canon 5D Mark III
Canon 1V 35mm // Portra 400 or 800 // The FIND Lab
Mamiya 645 // Portra 400 // The FIND Lab
Her motherhood story:
What were your first thoughts when you met baby {L}?
Immediately after he was born my doctor placed him on my chest and I kept kissing his head, staring at him and taking it all in. I couldn’t believe this perfect little human my husband and I created was ours. I was surprised at how much he weighted since he weighed a bit more than his older sister at birth and I kept commenting on it.
What do you hope your children will say years down the road when looking at these images?
I hope our children not only love and cherish these photos but also appreciate having them. Since they won’t remember when these pictures were taken I hope they see how special these moments were and how much we love them and how happy they make us. We don’t have any beautiful high quality images like these from my parents or my husband’s parents and I wish we did.
What is your favorite thing about being a mother?
So many things make being a mom amazing but the joy, purpose and love they bring to my life is truly the best. I live for their smiles, hugs and kisses.
Her session experience:
Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before your session?
My main worry was if my three year old daughter would cooperate for the session and not have a “threenager” moment! Toddlers can be unpredictable but Jody is a pro with kids and quickly became my daughters best friend. Somehow Jody captured genuine smiles and was SO patient. Also, Jody makes a fantastic monkey impersonation which my daughter thought was hilarious!
Do you have any advice for other families preparing for an in-home newborn session?
Try to pre-plan the things you have control over ahead of time such as what every member of the family is going to wear. I started planning outfits months ahead of time and even sent Jody pictures of options to help me choose. Also, think in advance if there’s anything in particular you want to include in the photos such as an heirloom baby outfit or blanket. Lastly, since we wanted the include my three year old daughter and dog in some of the photos it helped having grandparents behind the scenes to assist in getting the dog to sit and making my daughter laugh.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
Knowing we were in great hands with Jody behind the camera and we would get beautiful images of our family that we would cherish for a lifetime. Jody makes each session so easy and relaxed and takes the worry away from us as parents.
