Those first weeks with a new baby go by incredibly fast and babies change every day. I am so honored to capture this fleeting time for my clients, in the very place they brought their baby home. This is the story of baby Nora, who was greeted by her sweet fur siblings (a.k.a. the first babies) and became part of their pack. Her parents told their stories of the experience and what they most want her to see as she flips through her baby album years from now.
Kathryn’s motherhood story:
1. What were your first thoughts when you met baby Nora?
I just couldn’t believe she was here and physically on my chest. I was so over the moon, so tired, and just so in love.
2. What do you hope your child will say years down the road when looking at these images? I hope she can tell how much we love her. She is so special to us, and I want her to understand the overwhelming amount of love we have.
3. What is your favorite thing about being a mother? The snuggles are really special, the way she opens her eyes and gives you a little smirk like smile before she snuggles back into my chest. I really love being Nora’s mom, she is the absolute best!
4. Do you have any tips/advice for mothers of newborns (and fur babies)? Things you wish you knew? Having a baby is not scary. a lot of people try to tell you how hard it is, how tired you’ll be, and tell you horror stories about their one off experiences, but none of it’s real for you. The only thing that is real is your own experience. Don’t feel trapped in your house, get out with your spouse and baby, create memories.
Stephen’s fatherhood story:
1. What were your first thoughts when you met baby Nora? When she first entered the world her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck so I was worried at first. Then the doctor assured me she was good and healthy and then I was filled with joy.
2. What do you hope your child will say years down the road when looking at these images? I hope she appreciates she has beautiful, classy photos of her as a baby. Photos she will be able to show to her kids someday.
3. What is your favorite thing about being a father? It gives me a sense of purpose. My love language is acts of service so it’s fulfilling to serve her every day.
4. Do you have any tips/advice for fathers of newborns (and fur babies)? Things you wish you knew? To spoil your wife and take care of her. It will make her love you more than you thought she ever could. There’s a lot as a mom she has to do, so you take good care of her. Also, buy the book
“mom’s on call” it’s a lifesaver!
Their session experience:
1. Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before your session? We were worried that Nora would cry or be fussy for the entire session. She is an amazing baby, but we were worried that she would all of a sudden just start crying for 3 hours lol.
2. Do you have any advice for other families preparing for an in home newborn session? Do it! Your sweet baby will grow so quickly before your eyes and you’ll regret not capturing those sweet moments. I wish we could do a photoshoot every week because that’s how fast they grow!
3. What was your favorite part of the experience? Jody did everything, she made it so easy to enjoy the day and not worry about a single thing.
