Her motherhood story:
What were your first thoughts when you met baby {L}?
Honestly, my first thought was I DID IT! Labor was so exhausting and overwhelming, but the little baby lying on my chest was magic. It just felt so right to have her there.
What do you hope your child will say years down the road when looking at these images?
I hope that when she looks at these pictures she will be able to feel how much we loved her from the very beginning.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
Jody was able to include our beloved animals, Haley and Gracie, in some of the shots, and that was so, so special to us! She also has an amazing talent for calming a fussy baby. When I started to feel frazzled about soothing Lucy and getting our pictures finished, she stepped in and gave me a chance to relax, which was such a blessing.
His fatherhood story:
What were your first thoughts when you met baby {L}?
I was just amazed by the whole process. She was so beautiful and perfect, and I was grateful that she’d arrived safely.
What is your favorite thing about being a father?
The snuggles and the smiles.
Do you have any tips/advice for fathers of newborns? Things you wish you knew?
Just relax! There’s nothing you can do to prepare yourself to be a father, so don’t stress yourself out trying.
The session experience:
Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before your session?
No! We had done our maternity shoot with Jody a few months earlier, so I knew how wonderful she was to work with—accommodating, encouraging, and with a beautiful artistic vision. I knew she would capture all the special moments I envisioned, plus lots more that I hadn’t even thought of.
Do you have any advice for other families preparing for an in home newborn session? There’s not much preparation you have to do—Jody will seriously take care of everything! I would just recommend that new moms who are still adjusting to their postpartum bodies (and maybe not feeling totally comfortable yet) choose an outfit that feels relaxed and easy, rather than something that seems photo-worthy (but that they’ll feel like they need to constantly readjust and only pose in certain ways in).
