Safety First:
I did cancer research as a postdoc at MUSC for many years. During that time, I served as a “biosafety officer” to educate the personnel in our lab about safety protocols for the viruses and bacteria we used in our studies. I am not an expert on viruses, but through my experience and in the latest information we have available, I have been learning best practices to create the safest environment possible. I also want my clients, who may be completely freaked out by the current events to feel as comfortable as possible. I am a mother of three and have been in your shoes. The mama bear in me wants to put them in a bubble. As a scientist, I know that learning about a novel virus takes time and until we know more, we will do our very best to protect everyone. Some parents are fully comfortable with me being indoors and/or posing baby, some aren’t. Both are 100% correct in making personal decisions for their families.
Outdoor Newborn Sessions
I will now be offering Outdoor Newborn Sessions that include a 1-2 hour photography session (6+ feet apart outdoor only with a mask for me) with your choice of a digital package (10, 20 or all images) and a lifetime print release. Availability for these sessions is limited. Click HERE to reserve your session this summer.
What does this mean for portraits? Although I cannot directly pose a baby being 6 feet away, I can direct and guide clients in the way they hold their baby to show off their sweet features. I have lenses and a tall step stool to remain at a safe distance and still capture close details.
What age is a good age for outdoor portraits? Any age. Babies LOVE being outside. There is something so calm and serene about their faces as the fresh air and sounds of nature surround them.
Indoor Newborn Sessions
The health and safety of my clients is paramount. Per CDC guidelines, all of my sessions this year will proceed with a mask on and properly cleaned hands, blankets, wraps, clothing and camera gear. The entire COVID Safety Policies can be accessed HERE. I am up-to-date on my flu and Tdap vaccinations. All blankets and wraps are sanitized in between sessions in a dedicated perfume/dye free washer and dryer. I have sensitive skin, so even my clothes won’t irritate baby’s skin. Sessions may take place at the client’s home or (a very limited number) at my home studio in Carolina Park (Mount Pleasant, SC).
