One of my goals as I first arrive at a client’s home is to observe the available light and find locations for lifestyle photographs (the candid moments you and your family share in your own space) as well as the more classic portraits. This family’s Mount Pleasant home was stunning and the perfect location to document their newest addition. Mom and Dad are so in love and are absolutely smitten with their brand-new baby girl!
She is such a beautiful newborn and did wonderfully throughout the whole session (I wish I could help more of my clients when they need to get their newborns to sleep, like at 3am… alas…)

Even big brother pup got in on the session (my personal favorite is where he put his paw on Dad as if to say, “I’m still here!”)
I told mom to ignore me and enjoy her baby for minute. You can always re-create poses, but you cannot re-create moments.
Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before your newborn session?
I had many worries leading up to the photo shoot. I primarily worried whether or not {E} would participate and let you capture the moments we were hoping for. I also had concerns as to whether we would be able to compose ourselves and be prepared for our appointment as this was one of the first scheduled items on our agenda since bringing our daughter home. Fortunately, you have experienced this and made us all feel calm and confident.
Do you have any advice for other families preparing for an in-home newborn session?
Your flexibility allowed me to feed her on demand which resulted in a calm and happy baby. Keeping that in mind and also applying your advice on how to prepare for the session resulted in a less stressful environment and allowed us to prepare as much as possible prior to the session.
What do you hope your child/family will say years down the road when looking at these images?
I’m not sure I can answer this without tears:). We hope our daughter can see and feel the genuine and instant love that we have for her during the short week she has been in our lives. We hoped and prayed for her and to see the beauty and innocence of our newborn captured by you is priceless. We know she will grow so fast and it’s such a blessing to be able to have these images to cherish forever.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of this experience was watching {E}’s facial expressions as you gently and calmly worked with her in such a peaceful setting.
After the session and viewing her images, this is the sweet email I got from her:
“Jody! I cannot begin to tell you how special these pictures are and how much we absolutely love them. You captured our family beautifully and more importantly documented our sweet bundle of joy in her first days. These will always be cherished as she grows quickly right before our eyes.
