It is such an honor to witness two people who are about to embark on the most amazing journey of their lives… parenthood (and you thought it was marriage!) There are so many expectant mothers and fathers who feel like maternity photos are awkward or kitschy or that they won’t know what to do in front of the camera. Well, to tell you the truth that is most of us (raises hand), but watching the worry disappear and the love and connection unfold is the most magical thing to witness!
The expectant mama sent me the sweetest email after seeing her beach maternity photographs. She is a wordsmith and I used her word “serene” in the title of this post because it captured the mood perfectly.
“You are so incredibly talented! We are so in love with the photos!!! Thank you, thank you. I feel like we’re normally more comfortable in front of the camera than we were that evening, but neither of us knew quite how to pose with the new bump. Thank you for creating poses and taking photos that hid any of our awkwardness in learning how to position ourselves. The color and composition in each of your photos is gorgeous. When I look at the gallery, the atmosphere is so serene; all I can sense is a sea breeze and the salty air, not humidity, sweat, or impending thunder storms! You have created such a tranquil mood in each photo.”
Film images were captured on Kodak Portra 400 35mm or Fuji 400h medium format film and developed by the FIND Lab.
