Welcome Home, Baby Brother! {Mount Pleasant Lifestyle Newborn Session}

I can’t say enough about how amazing this family is. The mom and dad are such fun-loving, caring and devoted parents and their children are ANGELS (and so adorable, it’s criminal!) Their newborn baby (who was over 10lbs at birth) boy slept like a dream!

I interviewed mom to get her perspective on the in-home newborn session experience. Scroll below the images to see her take on preparing for the session and some advice for other families.

Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before your newborn session?

I have never hired a photographer to take photos around my own home. When I first decided to book Jody, I was definitely nervous about the lighting in our house. While we love how cozy our home is, it is dark in many rooms for a photography session, so I was a bit hesitant to have her come in and do the session here. I just wasn’t sure how it would work out. Well, I should not have wasted a moment worrying! She walked around the house when she first arrived and did an amazing job using the light we had where she could find it. And I sure love having the memories these photos capture of us being together in our own home, where we live, play, and love each other every day.

Do you have any advice for other families preparing for an in-home newborn session?

My biggest advice for families preparing for an in-home newborn session is to think about the places around your home where you love to gather or play together and make sure you tell Jody to capture moments in those places of y’all doing things you love. Those are the moments we will want to remember when our kids are grown. I just love the photos Jody captured of our kids playing and laughing while they were doing things they do every day. Those memories are priceless and {surprisingly} even more special than a family photo of everyone smiling at the camera.

What do you hope your child/family will say years down the road when looking at these images?

As I scrolled through the photos that Jody posted for us on our gallery, I was so grateful to have images that truly captured the feelings we share in our home- something I can’t always put into words in a baby book or letter. I now have photos to remind each of our kids of the love, laughter, and fun we share in our cozy home in Charleston. I hope and pray that when our kids see these photos that they know undoubtedly that they grew up in a home full of love.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of this experience was how comfortable our other kids were during the photo shoot. We have hired newborn photographers in the past and gone to their studio, but never had a session in our home. Even though it is a bit stressful to make sure your house is clean for the session, it was such a better experience in our home and so worth it! The kids were quick to come around to Jody in our own home and were able to play with toys or keep busy while she was photographing the baby. The results of sibling shots and family photos were much better with everyone happy and at ease! And it is even better that the photos Jody captured are moments in our own home. I want to remember every detail of what we do together and where things are in our home years from now, which makes the in-home session priceless!
